GALS Inc. is supporting a committee of community members in Las Vegas who desire to establish a single gender charter school in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The proposed school will first establish as an all girls school at the grade 6 level and expand to grade level 8 in two years.  The committee is developing an application to receive a charter to operate from the State Public Charter School Authority.

GALS Las Vegas Leadership


Jennifer McCloskey, Founder

Jennifer McCloskey is the driving force on the ground to bring GALS Inc to Las Vegas, Nevada. After a 15 year career as a federal executive she was inspired to share her knowledge and expertise with girls to help them become self-advocates and leaders in their community and world.  Jennifer has developed partnerships with non profits, government agencies and other countries and brings this expertise and collaboration style to GALS Las Vegas. She also spends time in the classroom teaching business courses to mid career college students. She has maintained a life long commitment to healthy living and you can find her practicing yoga, Cross training and she is an avid hiker.  She is mom to two out spoken girls and serves her community as a board member for SafeNest and Camp Kesem.


Sarah Sherman, Principal

Sarah Sherman has been educating girls for close to two decades both as an educator and as a guidance counselor. She founded and served as the director and principal of the Las Vegas Jewish High School (LVJH) for girls close to eight years ago.  With a master of education (M.Ed.) she is passionate about nurturing the mind, body and soul in a holistic manner and has depth of experience teaching in a single gender school structure.  She currently serves as a board member of Beacon Academy of Nevada and outside the classroom, you can find Sarah serving as a youth mentor helping young people plan their future and overcome daily obstacles. 

Brenda Boyd, Board Chair

Brenda Boyd is leading the GALS Las Vegas Board of Directors on a journey to launch GALS Las Vegas to remove gender stereotypes for girls and provide an education that is tailored to their needs. She founded and has been at the helm since 2010 of Sistahs Strong, a non-profit organization that provides mentoring to at risk girls to inspire, motivate and create interest in self and community. She is passionate about serving girls and embodies the principles of restorative justice as a long-time mediator, counselor, mentor and broker of peace. She has a Master’s Degree in Criminal and Restorative Justice and leads GALS Las Vegas with her core values of empathy, respect, honesty, acceptance, responsibility and accountability.


Support GALS Las Vegas

GALS Las Vegas is requesting donations to develop the facilities and form a top notch team of educators and support staff to open the proposed school.  Grants will be sought but additional community support is necessary.
